A gendarmerie investigation is underway to try to determine the origin of this impact.

Worry and emotion. These are the two feelings that predominate on the evening of this Sunday, May 5 in the small town of Châteauneuf-Miravail (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence) in the Jabron valley. A man was injured in the shoulder following the passage of a rifle bullet into his vehicle, BFM DICI learned.

The events occurred between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. The man, aged 75 and resident of the town, was driving his vehicle calmly. That’s when a projectile went through the windshield. After checks by the gendarmes and criminal identification technicians (TIC), it is indeed a bullet. The latter passed through the windshield then crossed the headrest before ending its trajectory in one of the rear doors of the vehicle.

Injured by broken glass

According to initial information, the driver was not hit by the bullet. But the shards of glass caused injuries to his shoulder. He was taken care of by the firefighters.

“The bullet passed ten or fifteen centimeters from his head. We are stunned and sad. He really almost passed,” breathes a resident of the town stunned by this news.

Quickly on site, the gendarmes were able to carry out the first interviews. According to our information, the victim is an uneventful and rather popular resident of Châteauneuf-Miravail. “He is a man who has seen others through his military past. But he had never been shot,” says a Jabronese who knows the driver.

No searches in the area

Accident or deliberate act? No lead is preferred at this stage and the investigation is only just beginning. “No administrative raids by hunters or action by lieutenants of the wolf squad took place this Sunday. Was it a poacher, a rifle test or a free and voluntary act? We know nothing,” indicates a judicial Source.

When contacted, the mayor of the town, Jean-Philippe Martinod assured that he “does not want to make any comments in order to let the investigators do their work calmly”.
