Lot-et-Garonne: this mother gives birth urgently at home, with the help of her partner

The event is extremely rare. In this village near Marmande (Lot-et-Garonne), this has only happened five times in 31 years: a baby was born in the commune in Marcellus. Young Clara was born on Sunday April 7, 2024 at 7:02 p.m. 50.5 cm, 3.445 kg, she is the second daughter by Emilie Vinuales and Yohan Dedieu, settled here for 15 years.

If his arrival fills his family with happiness, Léa, his 10-year-old big sister in the lead, it was incredible to say the least.

Two days earlier than expected

The home birth was absolutely not planned. It was to take place two days later, scheduled at the maternity ward from Marmande, after a smooth pregnancy. “If I had planned… I would have taken the epidural” laughs the young mother. The family is quite discreet in the village, but the baby has decided to end a day on the theme of sport in a big way.

The basketball player’s water breaks… in basketball

Day which started with a rugby match at La Réole, where Yohan Dedieu has been playing for years. “We went to see the dad play… Plus he gave it a try, it was a sign” smiles Emilie.

The rest takes place in the basketball hall, a discipline practiced by mother and daughter, in Samazan. They were to see two youth matches against Meilhan.

Funny, for this young woman who has been practicing this sport for 35 years, to lose her water in a basketball court… In a mixture of composure and emotion, Léa, 10 years old, “as a big sister and very caring daughter that she is, called her dad to come.” For his part, Yohan had just returned from his match, “I barely passed the door of the house”.

She thought she had time

Time to plan a suitcase with the bare minimum for the mother, and he left towards Samazan. “Léa and I packed his little sister’s suitcase together… but he forgot it,” smiles the happy mother.

Yohan wanted to head straight to the hospital. It is then 5:30 p.m., “but I wanted to come home and take a shower,” Emilie continues.

For the birth of her eldest daughter Léa, between the loss of water and the birth, 14 hours had passed. The mother therefore thought she had time, “especially since I didn’t have didn’t have many contractions “. These intensified in the shower… to the point of becoming unbearable.

“Prepare sheets and towels”

Logical reflex: Yohan calls the firefightersat 5:50 p.m. On the line, while waiting, he answers a few questions asked by the Samu doctor on the contractions or thrusts of his partner.

He is then alone with his partner, his eldest daughter and his second who is showing up. “ That’s the only time I was a little scared. I thought I was going to have to give birth to him alone and I thought about the possible complications,” remembers Yohan.

Fortunately, five minutes later, the firefighters were there, followed closely by the Samu. “They don’t do this every day, but they have training. » They took the constants and confirmed what was looming, “they told me that there would be no point in moving Emilie. »

The emergency services took matters into their own hands, and Yohan was able to breathe, “I attended like any dad at childbirth » he smiled. A little cramped, of course, due to the presence of four firefighters and three Samu personnel, in addition to the parents… but with images, in retrospect, rather funny.

The IV was hung on the chandelier, the bedside tables were used to rest my feet.

Just after 7 p.m., little Clara was born, “she started crying straight away” smile the parents. The whole family was thus able to return to the maternity ward. It’s a beautiful moment, even if it was painful.”

Beautiful too, because he showed the very strong cooperation of a family which ensured in the face of an extraordinary event.
