It was an Instagram post from Lionel Messi’s wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, who announced the news: her son Thiago and Luis Suarez’s son, Benjamin, won the Florida Academy League last Monday.
Thiago Messi, the eldest of the family at 11 years old, and Benjamin Suarez, the Uruguayan’s second child, also 11 years old, started playing football together in Barcelona, when their fathers were in the heyday of the Catalan club.
They met again when Luis Suarez arrived in Miami last January and have, it seems, regained their automatisms.
For Thiago Messi, this is not the first title. The young boy has already won the Weston Cup and the Blue Silver division of the Easter International Cup.
During the Florida Academy League, Inter Miami of young Messi and Suarez beat Jacksonville (7-3) in the round of 16, Plantation FC Academy (4-1) in the quarters, Orlando City (4-1) in the half and won the 6-1 final against Tampa Bay United.
A trophy that Antonela Roccuzzo and her children, Thiago, Mateo and Ciro, accompanied by Luis Suarez’s wife, Sofia Balbi, and his youngest son, Lautaro, celebrated with family.
