Leonardo DiCaprio as Sinatra?
After “Killers of the Flower Moon”, the genius of American cinema therefore wishes to tackle the life of Frank Sinatra. It is Variety which reveals the information, while the 81-year-old filmmaker is preparing to shoot a new film on the life of Jesus, 36 years after the controversy “The last temptation of Christ”. A project on which the director of “Taxi Driver” has already worked in the past before abandoning it in 2017, failing to reach an agreement with the rights holders of the American crooner. It seems that Martin Scorsese is once again motivated to shoot this film, for which he has already found his leads. Having become his favorite actor since “Aviator”, it is Leonardo DiCpario who could play Frank Sinatra on screen, while Ava Gardner, his second wife between 1951 and 1957, should be played by Jennifer Lawrence.
We would therefore have to believe that Martin Scorsese’s biopic would focus on this period of the singer’s life, the one where he began to return to the top after crossing the desert. A relationship that inspired Etienne Daho to write his latest album “Tirer la nuit sur lesétoiles”. For the moment, Tina Sinatra, the singer’s daughter who takes care of his musical legacy, has not yet given her agreement but, according to Variety, that’s not what’s stopping Martin Scorsese from embarking on this new biopic. The American media claims that Apple, which produced and distributed “Killers of the Flower Moon”, and Sony are in the race to obtain this attractive project.
While he has directed a number of biopics during his career, from “Raging Bull” to “The Wolf of Wall Street,” this would be the first time that Martin Scorsese has filmed one about a singing star. On screen, Frank Sinatra has already been played by Ray Liotta, Dennis Hopper and James Russo.
