A quarter of a century after the broadcast of the very first episode, In a galaxy near you is entitled to a documentary series entitled In a galaxy near you: 25 years of mission, all three episodes of which are available on Crave. Claude Legault, one of the creators of the cult series, delves into his memories.

The launch of the documentary directed by Matthieu Pepper brought together the authors, actors and fans of In a galaxy near you.
The first episode of In a galaxy near you was broadcast on January 25, 1999. But when did you and Pierre-Yves Bernard have the spark that led to the series?
It was 1991 and, at the time, the series was called Cosmo Mops, a parody of Cosmos Patrol. But our project was rejected everywhere. In 1994 we presented it again and again we were refused everywhere. It’s been a difficult journey. I think that many series that have worked have not had an easy journey.
As an actor, what were you doing in 1991 and 1994?
I participated in a lot of youth shows. I think of the 100 Watt Club, then Special Delivery. I also worked a lot in the field of humor, I wrote for others, notably for Michael Courtemanche.

What makes In a galaxy near you finally found a broadcaster in 1999?
Monique Simard, from Canal Famille, contacted us again. This project, in a way, took over from Radio Hell. Twenty-five years later, young people are still discovering the series thanks to Unis TV and the two films which are regularly rebroadcast.
Over the past year, you have, among other things, filmed the second season ofAbout Antoine, for Club illico. Tell us about it.
It is very beautiful. My character Marc finds the situation very difficult. He realizes that the future prospects for his son, Antoine, are more limited than he thought. This makes him anxious and makes him take somewhat desperate actions.
Next year, you will celebrate 10 years of love with Gaële. How do you plan to mark the occasion?
We haven’t thought about it yet, we have a lot of work. Otherwise, we also experienced painful moments this winter. Without going into details, many people close to us died in less than 24 hours. We’re still dealing with this. We mourned a lot.
Currently you are writing the third film In a galaxy near you and you are filming the third season of 39-45 on Canadian soil, as well as new fiction Collection. Do you have any other projects to report for the coming months?
Yes, I’m going to France for the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings. I go there alone and for myself.

Before presenting new personal projects in 2025, GaëleClaude’s lover, will be pianist and backing vocalist for the tour Marilou. “I’m getting back to my finery as a musician. We start working on the tour this month,” she says.
