With the defeat of Saint-Germain in Dortmund, lost any chance of inheriting the additional places in the Champions reserved for the best nations of the current season.

We now see more clearly. France will have the possibility of having four clubs in the Champions League next season, with the transition to the new format of the competition. The top three of the current season in Ligue 1 will qualify directly for the group stage, and the fourth will enter the competition in the 3rd preliminary round.

On the other hand, there will be no fifth ticket for the C1 for a French club, unless Olympique de wins the Europa League this season. As a reminder, the new format of the Champions League offers two additional places to the best nations from the previous season. For 2023-2024, Italy is leading the way, and the fifth in Serie A will therefore compete in the most prestigious European Cup next season.

Dortmund provides a service… to Dortmund

For the other ticket, it has also been resolved since evening. France can no longer have access to it after ’s defeat in Dortmund (1-0), because a full card was obligatory to catch up for Germany. And this is also validated for the Bundesliga, which will send the fifth of its championship to C1 next season. This is good news for… Dortmund, currently 5th in the ranking and certain of not being joined, and for Stuttgart (3rd), mathematically assured of being invited to the Champions League next season.
