Wydad Casablanca has reportedly concluded an agreement with Renaissance Berkane to secure the services of a Moroccan international, present during the historic course of the 2022 World Cup, during the Club World Cup, this summer.
At 35, Munir El Kajoui, Moroccan international goalkeeper, continues to demonstrate the full extent of his talent. Since his arrival at the Renaissance Sportive de Berkane this summer from Saudi Arabia, the native of Melilla has established himself as one of the major architects of his club’s domination in Botola Pro. With 21 matches played in all competitions this season and an impressive total of 14 clean sheets, the replacement goalkeeper for the Atlas Lions proves that he remains a key player in the Moroccan football.
With his 48 caps, Munir has made an impression with his solid and regular performances this season. His imposing size (1.90 m), combined with his experience on major stages, make him a centerpiece of the Berkane Renaissance. Who sees for each service of his doorman, a justified signature. With the RSB, he demonstrated that he could be a sure value, both to secure the cages and to instill unshakeable confidence in his teammates, who are leaders and Botola’s best defense, with only six goals conceded in 16 days. But, while Berkane continues to hover over the championship, rumors of departure are growing.
A major challenge with the Club World Cup
According to information relayed by Hespress the Wydad Casablanca would be in advanced discussions with Munir to recruit him, during the exceptional transfer window period, scheduled just before the competition. Munir El Kajoui could therefore become wydadi between June 1 and 10, an open period where a temporary transfer window has been established by FIFA, in order to allow clubs qualified for the World Cup clubs to adjust their membership. Mohamed Talal, spokesperson for the Casablanca club, confirmed these rumors in a press statement this week.
Wydad, who will be one of four African representatives at the prestigious tournament scheduled in the United States from June 14 to July 13, is looking to consolidate its group to compete with the best teams in the world. And Munir El Kajoui, with his experience and impressive performances, seems to be the ideal profile to occupy the position of goalkeeper against Manchester CityJuventus Turin and Al-Ain.
Note that Youssef El Motie, 30 years old and Wydad goalkeeper, is no longer in the odor of sanctity at the oldest club. This season, he has conceded 16 goals in 14 games and is no longer even considered by Walid Regragui, who did not call him for the last meeting of the year with the Atlas Lions. For Munir, this transfer would represent a return to the spotlight, in a renowned team, but also a huge opportunity to shine in the global spotlight, while he was in the shadow of Yassine Bounou in 2022.
