The municipal office of the City of Dakar expresses its dissatisfaction with the occupation of the capital following the prefect's decision to declare Mayor Barthélémy Toye Dias resigned. This situation led to a blockage of the Town Hall, seriously disrupting the functioning of the municipality.

The police, deployed “without any explanation”, impose strict controls. Municipal workers must present their professional card, while users encounter difficulties accessing local public services. Even more worrying, municipal councilors, including members of the office, are prohibited from accessing their workplace, despite showing their badge and wearing the municipal scarf.

In a press release, the members of the municipal office consider this situation “unacceptable in a state of law”, recalling that the proper functioning of the municipal council is in no way called into question. They thus demand the “immediate and unconditional lifting” of this blockade, which they consider illegal and contrary to the principles of decentralization.

The municipal office is calling on the authorities, in particular the Prime Minister, the Minister of Local Authorities and the Minister of the Interior, to take all necessary measures to put an end to this blockage.

Finally, the members of the office call on all municipal councilors to participate in the session of the municipal council scheduled for Thursday, December 26, 2024 at 4 p.m., at the Town Hall, during which will be examined, among other things, the draft budget for 2025.
