The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), in collaboration with the Nayaba Women Processors Association, established a regional packaging and production workshop in Niamey, the capital of Niger.
TİKA, in partnership with the Association of Women Producers of Niger, established the regional packaging and production workshop to encourage the participation of women in the country's industrial production processes.
The 200 square meter semi-enclosed hangar belonging to the Nayaba Association, located in Niamey, has been renovated and transformed into a modern production facility. The site now includes training rooms, boutique spaces, as well as additional production areas. It is equipped with machines for crushing, grinding, oil extraction, drying, roasting, labeling and marking, processing various agricultural products. Furniture, shelving, tables, and air conditioning and refrigeration units were also installed.
In fact, Niger faces major challenges in terms of food security, national stability and energy needs. The industrialization process, a key element of development, is hampered by numerous obstacles. Although the country's economy is largely based on agriculture and livestock, basic production activities, such as packaging, cannot be carried out locally due to technological limitations.
A significant increase in production capacity
The inauguration of the workshop took place in the presence of Can Onat Atış, 3rd Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Niamey; Tanju Polat, coordinator of TİKA in Niamey; Rabi Arzika, president of the Association of Women Transformers; as well as many Nigerian producers.
During the ceremony, Rabi Arzika highlighted the significant increase in production capacity thanks to the support of TİKA. “With the support of TİKA, our daily peanut oil production capacity increased from 50 to 60 liters per hour. We would like to express our gratitude to the Republic of Türkiye and the Turkish people for this invaluable support,” she said.
Strong support for processors
The regional packaging and production workshop will benefit the 63 members of the Association of Women Processors, as well as hundreds of producers in Niamey. Thanks to this initiative, women can now process, package and label their products more efficiently and in compliance with industry standards.
According to a report distributed by APO Group on behalf of TİKA, this project aims to reduce time and labor losses in agricultural production and packaging, thereby helping to limit market losses.
