A series that appeared on Netflix less than a week ago has already been watched more than 40,000,000 hours around the world.
It was on December 12 that the new television series entitled La Palma appeared on Netflix.
The series in question centers around a family vacationing on one of Spain's most popular Canary Islands.
While the family wants to enjoy the sun, a nearby volcano will disrupt their stay.
The synopsis states: “If the volcano erupts, a mountain mass the size of Manhattan could erupt into the sea and cause the largest tsunami the world has ever seen. Will the family be able to escape the disaster of ash, gas and lava while fighting for their lives?
The series La Palma starred Anders Baasmo Christiansen, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal (Westworld), Alma Günther, Bernard Storm Lager, Thea Sofie Loch Næss, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (The Meg) and Jorge de Juan.
Here is the trailer for La Palma:
The media Ici reported that the series found itself at the heart of a controversy, because it recalls a very real drama which occurred on September 19, 2021.
Indeed, the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano – since renamed Tajogaite – may not have caused any deaths, but it forced thousands of people to evacuate their homes, in addition to hundreds of properties that were destroyed under the lava and ashes.
Many Spaniards accused the series of exploiting the tragedy.
One Internet user notably declared on Those who suffer the tragedy of La Palma are the Norwegians, who return home with an anecdote, and not the inhabitants themselves, who still live in containers. AMAZING.”
The creators of the series, however, explained that the series was commissioned before the eruption of Cumbre Vieja. Filming of the series was also interrupted due to volcanic activity.
Finally, let us point out that the series still has many defenders who affirm that it should be saluted for its positive impact on the island of La Palma.
