In Spain, a pure coincidence of the internet recently led to the identification of a murderer who had been wanted for several months. On Google Maps, the Street View function allows you to scroll through the streets around the world in just a few clicks. Including in very small provinces populated by around fifty inhabitants like Tajueco.
It is in this tiny village that a murder case was solved thanks to the passage of the Google Maps car. In the photo, it is possible to see a man placing a large bag in the trunk of a colored vehicle. The man in question was suspected in the disappearance of a forty-year-old of Cuban nationality who had not given any sign of life since November 2023, indicates the Spanish edition of 20 Minutes.
Google’s car hadn’t passed for 15 years
The suspect, as well as the missing man’s wife, were quickly arrested on Tuesday, December 17, shortly after the discovery of the victim’s dismembered body in a nearby cemetery.
The timing of this image captured by Google Street View is all the more disconcerting given that the last passage of the Google car on this street dates back to the fall of 2009, 15 years ago, add our colleagues.
Quickly, the photo in question made the rounds on social networks. On X (formerly Twitter), it has been viewed several million times. “You kill a man in a backwater town and you get caught because of Google Maps, I can’t believe it!”, exclaims a user of the platform in particular.
