The future vice-president of the United States, JD Vance, is a double convert: he was an atheist before embracing the Catholic faith, and virulently anti-Trump before becoming his anticipated heir.
At 40, some already see him as the Republican candidate for the 2028 presidential election. Born in a very working class environment, raised by a heroin addict mother, then by his grandmother, James David Vance has climbed the ladder of the American dream. After attending the prestigious Yale University, he became an atheist before receiving Catholic baptism in 2019.
56% of Catholics voted for Trump
A religious identity which helped to boost the Catholic vote in favor of Trump: 56% of voters of this faith slipped a Republican ballot into the ballot box. Historically, Catholics with an immigrant background tended to vote Democratic.
JD Vance also embodies a basic trend among young American conservatives: more and more of them are converting to Catholicism. To the point that this confession could become, according to some observers, the backbone of the Republican Party.
