Serbian Interior Minister, who mentioned a possible link with the «wahhabism», said the assailant shot a member of the security forces with a crossbow.
A man with a crossbow injured a police officer on duty in front of the Israeli embassy in Belgrade on Saturday, before being shot dead, announced the Serbian Minister of the Interior, who spoke of an attack “terrorist” with a possible link to the “Wahhabism”.
Around 11 a.m., a “unknown (…) shot a member of the security forces, who was providing security for the Israeli embassy, with a crossbow and hit him in the neck”said Uvica Dacic. The police officer said “used a weapon in self-defense” against the assailant, who is “died of his injuries”he added in a statement.
Qualifying the attack “a terrorist act directed against the Serbian state”UIvica Dacic later told reporters that she was “linked to several people long suspected of having connections with the wahhabi movement »an ultraconservative branch of Islam that dominates Saudi Arabia.
Several people were arrested “in a preventive manner”and the alert level has been raised in Belgrade, the Interior Minister said. The injured police officer was hospitalized for surgery.
