The message was broadcast on Sunday, June 30, 2024, during a demonstration against the far right. The day after the first round of the legislative elections, several groups met again at Place de la Liberté, in Brest (Finistère), this Monday, June 1is July 2024.

“The first objective is to counter the National Rally. If there is a risk of the extreme right being elected, we call the candidates in 3e position to withdraw”, explains Lionel Jaffrès, from the Faire front collective.

“Rethinking the way we do politics”

And to add: “The second step is to rethink the way we do politics. Too many people have been left out. This RN vote is the consequence. We must not stay among ourselves. We must talk to each other between working class circles, residents of neighborhoods and other social circles.”

Since the results of the European elections, the latter meets every day at 6 p.m. on Place de la Liberté, “to provoke meetings and exchange”.

New mobilizations announced

This Monday, Faire front, joined by other collectives, including the inter-union, started singing and banging pots and pans, in order “to make noise under the windows of the mayor, François Cuillandre, and Jean-Charles Larsonneur”.

Having come third in the first round of the legislative elections, Jean-Charles Larsonneur, outgoing deputy, is maintaining his candidacy in the second round. This news angers the assembly of the day. Their goal is to alert local elected officials to the need “of a clear position against the extreme right”. On the agenda, Faire front has validated a joint platform which will soon be available online.

The inter-union, for its part, has called for a demonstration on Thursday, July 4, at 6 p.m., and Sunday, July 7, at 8 p.m.
