According to the ABC News story, the tragedy occurred this Friday, June 21 in the evening. A shooting broke out when the young boy — on his tricycle — was having fun with his relatives, including his big sister. That’s where they were hit by gunshots.

“It was a warm night, with many people outside, and the gunshots had nothing to do with the meeting,” authorities said, adding, “These children were simply enjoying a summer evening when tragedy struck.”

Although the young boy was pronounced dead at the hospital, his sister only suffered superficial injuries and is expected to recover. A weapon found at the scene is currently being examined, police said.
According to Erie County court officials, the mother of the two children is a well-known member of Most Valuable Parents, a neighborhood watch organization. The latter launched a call for testimony, aiming to elucidate the circumstances of this shooting.
