The association of sickle cell patients and Madani Sympathizers was born – MALI24

This young association created by Saoudatou Koné, was officially launched, Saturday June 22, 2024, at Kati Cité ATTbougou 600 housing units. The event was chaired by the Minister of Health and Social Development, represented by Ms. Diarra Dingaraye Ibrahima Maïga in the presence of the Deputy Director of the Center for Research and Combating Sickle Cell Disease (CRLD), Yaya known as Sadio Baro, of the godmother, Mama Koné and a large crowd.

Placed under the theme “Neonatal screening, a hope for improving the quality of life of sickle cell patients”, the official launch of the association of sickle cell patients and Sympathizers-Madani is part of the international day of fight against sickle cell disease. sickle cell disease celebrated on June 19, 2024.

The representative of the City of 600 housing units was delighted with the launch of this association in the city. He congratulated and encouraged the initiator of this association despite her young age before inviting the inhabitants of the ATTbougou 600 housing estate to join the association and support it for the cause of sickle cell patients.

The godmother of the event, Mrs. Mama Koné, adoptive mother of young Madani, who died of sickle cell anemia, welcomed the initiative which will help relieve many patients and their parents who suffer from this disease. “Through this association we will continue the fight of young Madani who, despite his illness, always had a good mood,” she suggested.

The Deputy Director of the Center for Research and Combating Sickle Cell Disease (CRLD), Yaya known as Sadio Baro, said he was very happy to take part in the official launch of the association. “It is a hope to see young people getting involved in the fight against sickle cell anemia. Which fits well with the center’s missions. Train and support all those involved in the fight against sickle cell disease. The Crld will support the association in achieving its objectives because the fight is carried out through associations like this. Doctors alone cannot take care of very vulnerable patients, but the involvement of associations is necessary for total care,” declared the deputy director of the Crld.

Speaking about the theme, he stressed that no child should leave the maternity ward without knowing his status. He ended his speech by reassuring that the hope that a sickle cell patient can live normally like a non-sick person is allowed. because several types of care exist even if they are not currently available with us.

The president of the association of sickle cell patients and Madani Sympathizers, Saoudatou Koné, herself a sickle cell patient, giving thanks to God, thanked her parents for the sacrifice made. “Sickle cell disease is a genetic disease that affects the red blood cells responsible for transporting oxygen in the blood. Often diagnosed at birth, it results in anemia, great vulnerability to infections and painful crises affecting various organs. Sickle cell disease can cause complications, some of which are potentially serious. Prevention is based on regular medical monitoring,” declared the president.

She paid tribute to her brother Madani, torn from everyone’s affection by sickle cell anemia. “Madani was a person well loved by everyone. A boy full of life and a boy of great generosity. We only lived together for seven (7) years before sickle cell anemia took us away,” she testified with tears in her eyes.

According to Saoudatou Koné, as long as there is life, there is hope. “I have sickle cell disease as well as my younger brother Mamadi, we are alive and as long as there is life we ​​have hope. It is with this conviction that we decided to create this association to fight sickle cell disease alongside other associations and movements in order to combine our efforts to eradicate this disease”

The representative of the Minister of Health and Social Development, Ms. Diarra Dingaraye Ibrahima Maïga, on behalf of the Minister, greeted the initiator and reassured that the department will provide its support to this young association in achieving its objectives. She invited and encouraged the people of Kati to attend health centers in Kati for neonatal screening for sickle cell disease.
