Uruguay had a quiet night against Bolivia (5-0) in the second day of the Copa America group stage on Thursday, moving La Celeste closer to the quarter-finals.

It only took 8 minutes for Uruguay to take the lead at East Rutherford, with a header from young midfielder Facundo Pellistri. Very active, Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez doubled the lead in the 21st minute thanks to an inspired opening from Maximiliano Araujo.

Bolivia was underwater and was never going to resurface, scoring only one shot in the match, compared to nine for Uruguay who thus inflicted on the Bolivians their 14th defeat in a row in the Copa America. La Verde have not won a match in this competition for 27 years and their semi-final against Mexico, at home.

Bolivia is already eliminated from this edition, unlike Panama, which it will face on Monday during the third and final day of group C. Uruguay is guaranteed to qualify with a draw or a victory against the United States on Monday, and could even go through with a defeat.

2nd place in this group is currently occupied by the United States, who lost 2-1 to Panama in Atlanta. Quickly reduced to ten after the expulsion of Tim Weah, the Americans nevertheless opened the scoring thanks to Monegasque Folarin Balogun (22nd). But Panama ended up turning things around.
