Several American media have just revealed that Joe Biden and Donald Trump, who will face each other in a return match in the American presidential election in November, recently received the financial support of several billionaires.
Biden’s supporters
Joe Biden can thus count on the support of billionaire Michael Bloomberg. This former mayor of New York has paid a total of some $20 million to groups supporting Joe Biden and the Democratic Party in recent months, the “Washington Post” revealed.
“I stood alongside Joe Biden in 2020, and I am proud to do so again,” the New York businessman told the daily.
Billionaire and philanthropist Melinda French Gates, ex-wife of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, also called for voting for Joe Biden in November – without announcing any funds to the Democrat’s campaign.
Trump’s supporters
Donald Trump, himself a billionaire, received financial support from Timothy Mellon, heir to a large fortune dating from the end of the 19th century.
According to the “New York Times”, this discreet businessman gave $50 million to a support group for the ex-president, in the wake of the guilty verdict rendered against him at the end of May in New York.
The Winklevoss twins, famous for their role in the origins of Facebook, also announced their support for the Republican candidate.
“I just donated a million dollars in bitcoin to Donald Trump and I will vote for him in November,” Tyler Winklevoss said on “X.”
The co-founder of the Gemini cryptocurrency exchange platform made this donation because, according to him, “the war openly declared by the Biden administration against crypto”.
Joe Biden’s campaign team regularly attacks Donald Trump over his ties to the richest, accusing him in particular of “selling America to its biggest donors”.
In a press release, it was pleased to have raised more than $85 million in May, and to have had a total of $212 million at the beginning of June.
