Very heavy rain, stormy winds and “large hail”

Météo France evokes a “remarkable stormy situation” and alert on “very heavy rain intensities”gusts of 100 to 120 km/h in places, with risks of “big hail” locally.

In the Massif Central, forecasters are counting on accumulations of 20 to 30 mm per hour, “which may result in accumulations locally exceeding 60 mm during the episode. Some small to medium-sized hail is also likely, as well as wind gusts that could locally exceed 80 km/h. »

The most violent storms will affect the Grand Est, with accumulations of rain “50 to 80 mm in a short period of time, very strong gusts of wind (between 100 and 120 km/h at times) and large hail (diameter of up to or exceeding 5 cm in places), as well as intense electrical activity”.

Switzerland on alert

Note that Switzerland has also issued an alert bulletin due to storm phenomena, level 4 out of 5, i.e. « fort danger possible » throughout the west of the country, along the border with France, from Geneva to Basel. The Alps and Ticino are also on level 4 storm alert.

“Locally violent thunderstorms with significant accumulations of precipitation, hail and storm gusts, particularly in the Jura and western Lake Geneva in the Lake Geneva region”writes the Federal Weather Service.
