The suit: tailor-made, the arms: outstretched. Business consultants are often said to be capable of anything, but not responsible for anything. Those at McKinsey have a very particular reputation. The “mackies”, as they are called, are the most formidable players in the profession. Their working hours are longer, their bills higher, their results better. They are synonymous with savings, drastic cuts and job cuts: when McKinsey arrives, some have to leave.

It is said that McKinsey consultants work at least fourteen hours a day, that they are only interested in shareholder value and cash flow and that they measure company productivity with a stopwatch. Nobody really knows if this is true. There are many myths surrounding McKinsey. And McKinsey is a black box.
