REPORTING – Since March, around ten Ukrainian soldiers have been training air combat techniques on a French air base.

Alpha Jets streak across the sky. On board each is a Ukrainian pilot, accompanied by a French instructor. In the south-west of France, on a base whose location must be kept secret for security reasons, the air force is training around ten Ukrainian soldiers. We provide generic fighter pilot training », explains the base commander (1). His anonymity is also required. The army takes threats of destabilization or the approaches of Russian agents very seriously, we assure within the general staff. Even if there are only a few of them, these future pilots, with almost no air experience, will have to play a key role in continuing the war against the Russian invasion, aboard the F-16s promised by the West.

In the meantime, training begins on French two-seater jets. Several aircraft are waiting, out of the hangars, under the shelters at the edge of the runway…
