This June 12, President Zelensky traveled to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as part of his diplomatic trips to his allies. The president hopes to gain international support for a peace plan that would involve a complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, heir son of King Salman, received an audience with President Zelensky. At 38 years old, Crown Prince “MBS” is the country’s true strongman. His father, aged 88, is in fragile health and very rarely appears in public. After serving as defense minister, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman truly took charge of the country when he became prime minister in September 2022.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Wednesday he had held talks “productive and energetic” with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. On the messaging app Telegram, Zelensky added that their discussions were about “preparations for the first World Peace Summit, expectations, results and their possible implementation and efforts to move towards real peace for Ukraine”. It is not yet known whether Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will travel to Switzerland in person this weekend.
