It was Gérald Darmanin’s desire in the middle of the legislative campaign.

The GUD and three ultra-right structures based in Lyon, including the Remparts, were dissolved by the Council of Ministers this Wednesday. The announcement was made by the government spokesperson.

“It was presented this morning in the Council of Ministers by the Minister of the Interior and Overseas the dissolution of groups of facts and associations“, indicated Prisca Thevenot during the press briefing held at the end of the Council of Ministers.

In addition to GUD and Remparts, La Traboule and Top Sport Rhône were also dissolved. This will make it possible to close the association bar and the boxing gym at Montée du Change.

Concerning the Remparts, residents of Traboule and Agogé in Old Lyon, Gérald Darmanin recalls that “this group, through its publications and speeches, as well as those of its unmoderated members, leads a fight in the name of defending ‘identity’ and the ‘civilizational rampart’ and condemns miscegenation”. What “the publications of ‘Remparts’ generated hostile and violent comments against people with immigrant backgrounds which were not subject to any moderation”. Or even that “Far from being limited to words and training, the group’s provocations to violence were followed by action”.

Note that the Remparts immediately announced that they will contest their dissolution before the Council of State.

In a press release, Grégory Doucet, the mayor of Lyon, “welcomed the dissolution decree” but said “regret that the devolution of the assets of these organizations has not been pronounced” : “It would have allowed a lasting disorganization of these structures”. As a reminder, the elected official had repeatedly requested the dissolution of the Remparts and the devolution of the assets of Traboule and Agogé.

With this decision, the government has finally demonstrated responsibility; it was urgent to act for the safety of the people of Lyon. This dissolution is a further step to fight against the violence of the extreme right. Our duty is to promote the humanism so dear to our city and our country“, commented Grégory Doucet.
