Five people have been charged after a 2-year-old child was found locked in a padlocked metal cage at a residence in the US state of Kentucky.

Carrollton police officers found the toddler naked and trapped inside the cage on Monday in a room covered in urine and feces, the New York Post reported Wednesday, citing local media outlet McClatchy. News.

The young victim was treated by doctors and social services personnel who also recovered two other children from the home, according to the police force, which did not specify the relationship between the arrested suspects and the children.

The five adults, William Mahoney, 72, Brenda Chilton, 71, Tammy Simmons, 52, Codey Johnson, 29, and Shelby Turocy, 28, were arrested and face criminal charges, including endangering the lives of others, according to the American media.

The latter was also accused of possession of drugs, including methamphetamine and cannabis, mentioned the police force, which specifies that the suspects are being held in custody in Carroll County, while the preliminary investigation continues its course.
