Donald Trump elected: How Kamala Harris could still become president

Raised eyebrows and incredulous laughter on the set of CNNSunday. Guest of the show “State of the Union”, the former head of communications for Kamala Harris threw a wrench in the pond which took his interlocutors by surprise. Jamal Simmons actually suggested that Joe Biden resign and make the Californian the first female president of the United States… until the inauguration of Donald Trump.

“Joe Biden has been a phenomenal president, he has kept a lot of the promises he made. There is one that he could still accomplish: being a transition figure,” explained the man who worked alongside Kamala Harris, from January 2022 to January 2023. Jamal Simmons continued: “He could resign within thirty coming days, make Kamala Harris president of the United States. This would spare Harris from having to manage the transition on January 6, after his own defeat.

Hearing this idea, conservative Scott Jennings couldn’t help but laugh. “Jamal is writing the next season of House of Cards,” the Republican strategist joked. “This is the moment when we go from an Internet gag to a Sunday morning show,” reacted the presenter, Dana Bash. Unfazed, Simmons persisted and signed: “It’s in Joe Biden’s hands. If he did, he would keep his final promise and give Kamala Harris the opportunity to be the 47th president of the United States.”

Jamal Simmons had the same speech on his X account: “We are in the middle of a martial arts fight and Americans love drama and excitement. We (Democrats) should use this to send a message for a better path forward.” This suggestion was not a huge success on social networks, with most Internet users finding it completely false.
