(Keystone-ATS) Hezbollah fired approximately 320 projectiles from Lebanon toward Israel during Yom Kippur, according to the Israeli military. A new peacekeeper has been injured in South Lebanon, the fifth in two days.

No truce in the Middle East on Saturday, despite the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism, from Friday evening to sunset Saturday. While Hezbollah fired numerous projectiles from Lebanon towards Israel, the Israeli army responded by targeting some 280 “terrorist targets” during “operations” in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.

Hezbollah announced on Saturday that it had launched drones the day before against a military base in Haifa, a large port city in northern Israel.

A new peacekeeper was injured on Saturday in South Lebanon, the fifth in two days, announced the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). He was hit by a bullet from “the origin not yet determined”, while UNIFIL is under the crossfire of Israel and Hezbollah.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) warned on Saturday of a “catastrophic” regional conflict, as the Israeli army fights on two fronts: Lebanese Hezbollah and Palestinian Hamas, allies of Iran.

Also in Lebanon, at least 15 people were killed on Saturday in Israeli raids on three villages near Beirut and on the northern coast of the country, outside Hezbollah strongholds, the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported. An Israeli strike also targeted a market in the town of Nabatiyeh, in southern Lebanon, on Saturday evening, according to the official ANI agency.

Earlier in the day, Israel ordered residents of more than 20 villages in southern Lebanon to leave their homes and move to the north bank of the Awali River. These localities were already targeted recently by the Israeli army and many have already been emptied of their population.

On Friday, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati called on the UN to adopt a resolution for an “immediate ceasefire” in the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.
