VIDEO – A Hungarian activist rushed towards the Hungarian Prime Minister to interrupt him during his speech on opposition to immigration on Tuesday at the European Parliament in .

During a press conference at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday, October 8, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban was abruptly interrupted by Márton Gyekiczki, an activist and municipal councilor for the Hungarian opposition party. The man rushed into the middle of the room, throwing a pile of what appeared to be banknotes at the prime minister, before being caught by security and evacuated from the room.

“How much did you sell the country for? How much did you sell the country for, Mr. Prime Minister?”the crié Gyekiczki. “He sold himself to Putin, he sold himself to Xi Jinping !».

The Hungarian Prime Minister then tried to relax the atmosphere. “Hungarian is a difficult language, and communication is quite brutal. But when a Hungarian politician tells another that he is bad, in our culture it means that he does not agree with you,” he declared just after the altercation.

Márton Gyekiczki, the activist who was taken out of the room, is a member of the Hungarian Democratic Coalition party and a member of the city council of a Budapest suburb.

The incident occurred just before Viktor Orban’s speech to the European Parliament, scheduled for Wednesday, October 9, as part of Hungary’s rotating presidency. The Hungarian government has long been at odds with the European Union. She considers that some of the Prime Minister’s actions aim to restrict democratic rights. Additionally, Orban is criticized for his close relations with authoritarian regimes like Russia and China.
