Volvo Morocco presents the EX30: a new chapter in the electrification of the brand
Volvo officially unveiled theEX30 in Morocco during a press event which took place in Tangier. National journalists had the opportunity to take charge of this 100% electric SUV, while discovering the brand’s entire electric range, also including the XC40 and C40. Designed to offer the level of safety characteristic of Volvo vehicles, the EX30 also stands out for its low environmental impact, with the smallest carbon footprint ever achieved by the manufacturer.

Presented for the first time in Milan in June 2023 and available on the Moroccan market since March 2024, the Volvo EX30 is the first fully electric small high-end SUV from the Swedish brand. This model expands Volvo’s growing offering of 100% electric vehicles, which now has four models, three of which are marketed in Morocco (the XC40 and C40 also available in electric version). As the global market increasingly moves toward full electrification, the EX30 is timely to meet growing consumer demand for electric SUVs in a growing segment. Its competitive price positioning, with a starting price set at 425,000 DH, allows Volvo to offer an accessible alternative in the high-end electric range, thus offering Moroccan customers the opportunity to acquire an electric vehicle at a price comparable to that of a thermal SUV of the same category. This model thus contributes to the acceleration of the manufacturer’s energy transition, while adapting to the expectations of the Moroccan market.

“The 100% electric Volvo EX30 is certainly our smallest SUV, but it is powerful, efficient and offers everything you expect from a Volvo in terms of safety, connectivity, etc. like all Volvos, it is a car designed around people and their needs,” said Mehdi Bouhafs, general manager of Scandinavian Auto Maroc.

The Volvo EX30 reflects the brand’s design DNA, but in a more compact format. Its long wheelbase, large wheels and balanced proportions give it a sober elegance on the exterior. Fully electric, it is distinguished by an assertive style, with a closed front bumper and characteristic headlights in the shape of Thor’s hammer, with a digital look. Five vibrant exterior colors are offered, ranging from cloud blue to vibrant floral yellow, inspired by the lichen that grows on the rocky coasts of western Sweden, bringing character and personality to this small SUV.

Volvo EX30 Battery Technologies

Volvo Cars offers three versions of the EX30 with battery technologies tailored to different needs. The single-engine Single version, equipped with an LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) battery, is designed for short journeys, offering a more economical and less impactful option in terms of production. For those looking for more autonomy, the Single Extended Range version uses an NMC (lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt) battery, allowing you to travel up to 480 km between two recharges. Finally, the Twin Performance version, with all-wheel drive and NMC battery, develops 315 kW (428 hp) and allows acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, while offering a rapid recharge capacity of up to 155 kilowatts (kW), allowing the battery to be recharged from 10 to 80% in approximately 25 minutes.

The Volvo EX30 is designed to have the lowest carbon footprint of all the brand’s models, with a significant reduction in life-cycle emissions, reaching less than 30 tonnes over 200,000 km of driving. This objective is achieved through rational use of materials and innovations in production. On the safety side, the vehicle is equipped with a door opening alert system, intended to prevent accidents with cyclists or pedestrians in urban environments. Meeting Volvo’s strict safety standards, the EX30 incorporates cutting-edge technologies and advanced structural design, designed to meet real-world driving scenarios.

Inside, the Scandinavian design offers four customizable ambiances, with practical storage solutions to maximize space. The SUV is also equipped with the new generation Park Pilot Assist system, capable of managing all types of parking, whether parallel, perpendicular or herringbone spaces. The system identifies available spaces and automatically performs the maneuver, while displaying the distance to obstacles on a 3D user interface. To ensure an optimal user experience, Volvo has collaborated with technology partners like Google, Apple and Qualcomm, and partnered with Ecarx through HaleyTek to offer a cutting-edge infotainment system. nVolvo EX30: comfortable driving

The Volvo EX30 offers ample performance for everyday use, with sharp acceleration, as evidenced by 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. Despite its rear-wheel drive, the EX30 is not particularly playful, favoring comfort instead, faithful to Volvo tradition. Some body movements are felt during more dynamic driving, but overall, the behavior remains serene. The weight of 1,850 kg, although substantial, is in line with other electric models. On the road, we observed an average consumption of 18 kilowatt hours (kWh)/100 km, providing a range of 383 km in leisurely driving conditions. Regarding charging, it accepts up to 155 kW of direct current, allowing you to go from 10 to 80% in around 25 minutes.
