Ten firefighters were killed Monday in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon, the Lebanese Health Ministry said.

A ministry statement said firefighters lost their lives when an Israeli fighter jet launched a strike on a municipal building in the town of Baraachit.

The ministry called the attack “a war crime against firefighters and paramedics in southern Lebanon, to be added to Israel’s criminal registry.”

The attack came as Israel issued new evacuation orders for residents of 25 additional border towns in southern Lebanon, bringing the number of areas under evacuation order to 100. evacuation in recent days.

Israel has been waging a continuous air campaign since September 23 targeting what it says are Hezbollah targets throughout Lebanon, leaving more than 1,200 dead and more than 3,400 injured.

The air campaign represents an escalation in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah since October 8 last year, the day after the start of Tel Aviv’s brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip, which killed nearly 42 000 victims, mainly women and children.

Israeli attacks on Lebanon have left at least 2,036 dead, more than 9,500 injured and 1.2 million people displaced in a year of conflict, according to Lebanese authorities.

Despite international warnings that the Middle East region was on the brink of a regional war due to Israel’s continued attacks on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, Tel Aviv widened the conflict by launching, October 1, a ground offensive against South Lebanon.
