Campaigning in Ajaccio for the European elections, the president of the far-right Reconquête! Éric Zemmour was targeted with insults and egg throwing while walking through a market on Saturday, according to an AFP correspondent and a police Source.
On the market, the former candidate for the presidential election was awaited by around fifteen people who called him “fascist” and shouted “Leave here!”, according to an AFP correspondent photographer.
“There were jets of water and throwing of eggs and a woman tried to push him,” a police Source told AFP, adding that “the incident was very brief.”
On a video from Corse-Matin, Mr. Zemmour reacts by appearing to strike this woman.
“This is the true face of the extreme left, of the small violent groups, who really want us dead,” reacted immediately the leader of the extreme right party on his X account (ex-Twitter).
Mr. Zemmour, convicted several times for provoking racial hatred, continued his stroll, always followed by the same fifteen people kept at a distance by a CRS cordon. Sometimes warmly welcomed on certain stalls, he was encouraged to look elsewhere on others.
The Reconquest list! for the European elections, carried by Marion Maréchal, is credited with 5 to 6% voting intentions.
