Muslim Family affiliation remains important in the second generation
Family transmission of religious affiliation is stronger in Muslim families, all geographical origins combined, than in Christian homes: 91% of people raised in Muslim families continue to claim the religion of their parents, according to Ined surveys. Insee, compared to only 67% of people raised by Catholic parents. This transmission rises to 97% in families originating from Turkey, the Middle East or Sahelian Africa.
A large proportion of new arrivals come from Muslim countries
For more than twelve years, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia have been the top three countries of origin for recipients of first-time residence permits. A large cumulative share of Muslim sub-Saharan states (Guinea, Senegal, Mali, etc.) should also be noted.
