One in two people check their phone in the toilet

A YouGov survey reveals that nearly one in two people use their phone in the toilet, indicates the online store Galaxus, which commissioned a more general study on boredom. Italy has a big head start in this area: two out of three people take out their cell phone when they are at home. In other countries, including Switzerland, just over 4 in 10 people do the same.

Gender differences are relatively small: around 5 in 10 men and 4 in 10 women watch TikTok videos, send real (short videos) or book their next bathroom vacation. On the other hand, slightly fewer respondents admit that they consult romantic dating applications (approximately 3 out of 10).

More than half of those who use their cell phone in the toilet do so “always” or “often”, specifies the website galaxus.ch. It is again in Italy that smartphone use is the most routine, closely followed by .

While older people rarely take their cell phones out to the toilet, two out of three people under 30 take them out “often”, or even “always”.
