Senegal: a growth rate forecast at 7.1% in 2024 (IMF)

DAKAR, May 4 (Xinhua) — Senegal’s economic outlook remains favorable with an economic growth rate forecast at 7.1% for 2024 compared to 8.3% last year, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced on Friday.

The economic growth rate forecast for this year reflects “economic activity impacted in the first quarter by the electoral context and a delayed start of gas production until December 2024”, underlined the IMF in a press release sent to Xinhua.

“The economic indicators show that growth in economic activity was moderate, businesses postponed their investments and consumers reduced their spending,” according to the press release, noting that inflation fell to 3.3 % (year-on-year).

The press release follows a stay in Senegal, from April 25 to May 3, of an IMF team whose aim was to take stock of recent economic and political developments and to lay the foundations for discussions of the second review of the program supported by the international financial institution. END
