The investigation into the tragic death of a 30-year-old woman in Naples on Monday is gaining momentum. A couple living on Via Santa Teresella degli Spagnoli, where the tragedy occurred, are facing charges of involuntary manslaughter and negligence. They are the parents of the child who allegedly dropped the two-kilo statuette that fatally struck Chiara Jaconis. A babysitter who was present at the time of the incident is also in the authorities’ sights, writes the “Corriere della Sera”.

Questioned by prosecutors in charge of the case, the suspects denied any involvement in the tragedy, saying they had “never seen” the famous statuette representing the face of a pharaoh. However, investigators believe that this stone figurine was inside the couple’s home and that one of the children took it to the balcony on the third floor. A search was carried out in the apartment in question. The residents’ mobile phones and computers were seized.

According to witnesses, objects had already fallen from the building in question in the past, without serious consequences. The tragedy, which occurred on Sunday, was immortalized by a surveillance camera and the images circulated for a while on social networks, reports “Il Mattino”. On Wednesday evening, a candlelight vigil was organized in tribute to Chiara, near the scene of the accident. The victim’s father, Gianfranco Jaconis, took the opportunity to thank the doctors who tried to save Chiara, as well as the city of Naples and the residents of the neighborhood for their solidarity.
