The CVB 52 sets the machine in motion by beating Cannes

CVB 52 Haute- finally achieved the victory it had been waiting for since the start of the season, Saturday October 12, in (1-3). After a timid start, the Cévebistes quickly took control of the match, never to leave them again.

Chaumont VB 52 Haute-Marne knew well that it had to launch its season and avoid a third consecutive defeat at the start of the championship. He did it with inspiration and determination in Cannes, Saturday October 12, to score three healthy points (3-1).

It is a confident and highly inspired Cannes team which begins the game. Establishing quality in the service and in its “block/defense” relationship, the local team logically takes the game into its own hands (7-4). On the other side of the net, the lack of offensive realism on the wings is too significant a gap to hope to match the Azuréens (13-8).

Unlike their hosts, the Cévebistes are incapable of disturbing the good foundation of the opposing game. Faced with Cannes who evolve in serenity, the Chaumontais are constantly looking for a balance that is far too precarious to reassure themselves (17-11).

The services of Lukas Maase are the first signs of a possible visitor awakening (17-14). A late reaction, but which finally launches the CVB 52 match. Like a rediscovered Jacob Pasteur, the visitors return at high speed to their opponents (22-22), erase a first set point from the Riviera, then lead for the first time in the match (24-25). But at the end of the set, the very contentious decision to whistle a crossing by Mathis Henno on an attack weighed heavily in the conclusion: 29-27 in 38′.

A disappointment which does not seem to influence the behavior of the Haut-Marnais at the start of the second round. The services of Shane Holdaway and Pierre Toledo shake up the certainties of the Cannes back line (2-7). Locals who, strangely, have lost all influence on the game. The gap widens (9-16), while the Cévebistes make rain or shine in this set, but with many more sunny passages than gray (11-20). Chaumont equalizes logically and easily: 16-25 in 24′.

It is with a “Toledo festival” that CVB 52 resumes the game. After literally knocking out the young Timo Bériot with an attack (fortunately not serious), the “pointy” from Haut-Marne delivers three consecutive “aces” (2-6), and activates the crank.

The collective strength of the CVB

The little comeback of the Azuréens (4-6) does not last. The CVB collective is oiled and Mathis Henno is not its least functional cog (10-16). Faced with the Azuréens who have really lost their splendor in all areas of the game, the Cévebistes lead the way (12-19). The advantage is acquired and preserved, even if, at “16-24”, the last point is slow to come: 20-25 in 31′.

This time, it’s Mathis Henno’s turn to torture the local reception with two “aces” (0-3). The CVB 52 sets the first milestones and continues with a solid “block” (1-8). Opportunities to ignite for the Azuréens are rare.

This is not the case for the CVB, which can count on everyone’s involvement to get through the most delicate moments (7-14). This quality of play remains to be maintained for a few more minutes. Faced with the people of Cannes driven by the last hopes of the condemned man, the Haut-Marnais lost their serenity (19-20). but retain a valuable “break”: 22-25 in 32′.

A first three-point victory which finally launches the Chaumontais season, before the arrival of , Friday October 18, at Palestra.
