19th day of Ligue 1
Stade Louis-II
AS Monaco beats Stade Rennais 3-2
Goals for AS Monaco: Akliouche (15th), Biereth (52nd), Golovin (56th)
Goals for Stade Rennais: Nagida (45th+2), Gouiri (67th)
After a series of four games without a victory in Ligue 1, AS Monaco has relaunched. The Monegasques took over Rennes (3-2) at the end of a match full of twists and turns! This was not the expected scenario after the good start of Adi Hütter's men. Despite two opportunities wasted by Minamino, ASM logically opened the scoring with a magnificent acrobatic gesture from Akliouche (1-0, 15th)! Barely time to savor this gem and Golovin found the Samba bar in this open match.
Because Rennes was far from ridiculous. Monaco could have taken off, but the visitors finished the first period better and came back thanks to Nagida (1-1, 45th+2), opportunistic after a poor dismissal from goalkeeper Majecki. Nothing to disturb the Monegasques when they return from the locker room. On the contrary, they were much more effective thanks to a very good Biereth (2-1, 52nd) and Golovin (3-1, 56th). This time, we thought the ASM was safe. But Gouiri (3-2, 67th), after brushing against the post two minutes earlier, adjusted his curl better to reduce the score after a big error from Kehrer.
-Monaco got scared
The Red and Black could then take advantage of the momentum to equalize. But apart from Meïté's header on Majecki in added time, the Rennais did not create any chances, unlike the Monegasques who should have killed off the match well before the final whistle. No consequences for Monaco which temporarily regains 3rd place, while Jorge Sampaoli's Rennes, beaten for the fifth time in a row in all competitions, could go through a play-off this weekend.
