A flood alert has been issued for the east coast of Dorset this morning.

It covers Studland Bay, Sandbanks, Poole Harbour, Bournemouth Beach, Hengistbury Head and Christchurch Harbour.

The Environment Agency says the highest tide level is expected at Wareham, Poole and Christchurch at 9.15am with flooding possible in the two hours on either side of this time.

Areas most at risk are coastal roads and footpaths.

A yellow wind warning is also in effect for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole until 6am tomorrow with heavy rain forecast for today.

The Met Office says strong and gusty southwesterly winds are likely to affect southern parts of England through Monday and at first on Tuesday.

Gusts to 60 or 70 mph are possible near the coast.
