There were many residents on Friday January 10 in the Avernes gymnasium in Monthyon (Seine-et-). That evening, Claude Decuypèrethe mayor of the town, presented his wishes for the new year to the Monthyonnais. The opportunity to look back on the successes of 2024 but also and above all to discuss the next deadlines.

Renovations and constructions

The councilor therefore looked back on a year 2024 rich in achievements. Part of the site old military radars has been completely renovated and now hosts several Monthyonnaise associations, including the Rétro mobile club and its miniature museum. The building of the Socio-cultural Center also underwent work and was doubled. Another important project, the renovations on both sides of the Saint-Georges church. “Work that highlights this beautiful building both day and night, thanks to the lighting provided,” adds the mayor.

Finally, work on the La Grue pond began at the end of last year and is currently continuing. “I thank all the teams for cleaning and developing the banks and I invite everyone to its inauguration next May when the vegetation will be in place. »

Doctors, businesses and prawns

For 2025, the first project announced by Claude Decuypère is the complete renovation of the square serving the town hall and the church. “The GR1, a long-distance hiking trail, passing through this place, the objective is to make this place a pleasant place where residents and hikers can relax. »

Then, the first building of the old radars, and the only building not to have been renovated in 2024, will be in 2025. It will accommodate a new physiotherapist centerthe current premises having become too narrow. “In this same place, three new offices will be open for rental. » Still on the medical side, “a nephrologist-diabetologist has been established in the town since January 6, and before June, a third general practitioner will open an office,” continues the mayor.

In Monthyon, several companies will set up in 2025 including Revibatspecialized in glass wool recycling and which should hire 20 employees.

The “gambas” project will see the light of day. For this, the heat generated by the incineration of household waste from the Monthyon factory will heat the water in the ponds in which the shrimp will grow. “The first prawns will be marketed in the first half of 2026. As for the prawns according to Monthyon's wishes, we will therefore have to wait until January 2027,” laughs Claude Decuypère.

A shopping street

Finally, the project which will punctuate the year 2025 of the municipality is that of the shopping street. Indeed, as mentioned during the 2024 greetings ceremony, a mini commercial zone should see the light of day at the end of 2026 with “work scheduled to begin in October 2025.”

“It will be a real street, wide and woodedwhich will start from rue Lafayette, to the national 330. This street will be surrounded by commercial, artisanal and medical activities. » Indeed, this “entire creation at a strategic location” should consist of a small supermarketa garden center, an auto center, a hard discount storea laboratory, a nursery, a brewery and a pharmacy.

Why such a project in a town of less than 2,000 inhabitants? “Like many small communities, we encounter difficulties in maintaining our local businesses. This is why the municipal council was attracted by this private project. It was the only solution to save our pharmacy, which had no buyer, and which, with this project, attracted a new pharmacist,” concludes the councilor, satisfied.
