“It’s totally no.” Asked about the proposal from Minister of Labor Astrid Panosyan-Bouvet, Sébastien Chenu was categorical. While the government member proposed that certain retirees contribute to the financing of social protection, the RN deputy, guest of the TF1 morning show, refused “the idea of taxing retirees”.

“Taxing retirees who have 2000 euros of pension seems to me to be totally scandalous. At 2000 euros of pension, we are not rich”said the vice-president of the far-right party. When discussing this position, the Minister of Labor explained that “different taxes and contributions (…) could be considered for retirees who can afford them (…) depending on the level of pension”adding that this level would depend on future discussions. “It could be 2000 euros, it could be 2500”she mentioned again.
-“We will oppose this. We cannot accept this”repeated the deputy from the North, not excluding censorship if the measure is added to the draft budget. “Today, we didn’t talk about it as censorship. But I’m in favor of not letting it go”continued Sébastien Chenu. “It’s becoming a red line. We didn’t fight for retirees to see their pensions indexed to inflation, to now accept seeing them being robbed, ultimately, of the fruit of their work”he insisted again.
