The Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France (CRIF) published, Wednesday January 22, the statistics of anti-Semitism in France for the year 2024. As in 2023, the acts recorded are at their highest, reaching the figure of 1,570 These are complaints of anti-Semitic acts which were recorded by the Ministry of the Interior and communicated to the Jewish Community Protection Service (SPCJ), an organization. created in 1980 to protect the community and monitor the number of violence against it.
In 2023, anti-Semitic acts amounted to 1,676. If the figure is approximately stable over the two years, it marks a spectacular development compared to 2022: that year, 436 anti-Semitic acts were recorded.
In the meantime, as Yonathan Arfi, president of CRIF, recalls, there was the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel on October 7, 2023, followed by the war in Gaza. “The point of comparison is before October 7. We see that it leaves a lasting mark on the question of anti-Semitism, believes Mr. Arfi. We are now looking at figures with an order of magnitude that no longer has anything to do with those of 2022.” According to him, these historic figures two years in a row show that the hate movement released by October 7 is not “not ephemeral”.
