Daniel Schmidt officially leaves La Gantoise. He will not have really made an impression on the Buffalos.
For a few daysDaniel Schmidt was insistently cited in Nagoya Grampus to sign a return to the country. It’s now official: the Japanese club confirmed his arrival a few minutes ago.
The Japanese goalkeeper arrived at the Buffalos last winter, six months after the failure of his transfer to FC Metz. He has never managed to get past Davy Roef over time (only one start in the league this season).
Getting back into prominence for the national team
Schmidt is therefore returning to the country with the ambition of participating in the 2026 World Cup, having not been selected for the national team since the Qatari World Cup.
The former doorman Saint-Trond will have stayed five years in Belgium, with 120 Pro League matches under his belt, the vast majority in the Trudonnaire jersey. He is about to join his sixth club in the Japanese championship.
Despite his contract signed until 2027 at La Gantoise, the departure of Daniel Schmidt is not a surprise. The Buffalo leaders therefore anticipated and found his replacement in the Pro League.
