The streaming platform Netflix has offered very rich content in recent weeks and much of it has been acclaimed by viewers. Before the arrival of season 2 of Squid Gameon December 26 which swept away everything in its path and became number 1 in the top in less than 24 hours, a Norwegian series in four episodes delighted the subscribers of the American giant: The Palm. It follows a family of Norwegian tourists on vacation on the Canary Islands. Upon their arrival, a large volcanic eruption – from Cumbre Vieja – will plunge them into a global catastrophe, since the eruption causes the largest tsunami the world has ever seen. If it is not inspired by a true story, The Palm won all the votes from Internet users, even if some would have appreciated it lasting longer. In the same vein of disaster series, fans of the genre will find on the Netflix streaming platform Breathe. The pitch? Liv, a New York lawyer finds herself the sole survivor of the crash of her private plane in a remote region of Canada. She must then fight to stay alive and deal with her trauma. At the time of its release in 2022, the series, whose main actress Melissa Barrera was afraid of drowning on set, had quickly ranked in the top 10 most viewed fiction on Netflix.
The Daysa true story behind the series
In the thrill department, you can also turn to The Days. Released in 2023, the series, both distressing and captivating, depicts the true story of the disaster at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, in Japan, which took place on March 11, 2011. The attention to detail makes the strength of this mini-series which chose to expose the point of view of many people – government, people on site or even businesses – impacted by this disaster which lasted several days.
