INTERVIEW – The president of Banijay France was invited to the set of “Buzz TV” for the last show of the season. The opportunity for her to take stock of the year, upcoming projects and to discuss the current political climate.

The high priestess of French TV production was invited to the set of “Buzz TV” this Friday, June 28, for the last show of the year. The opportunity for Alexia Laroche-Joubert to take stock of this 2023 – 2024 television season, punctuated by both reality TV shows like “Secret Story” and telecrochet like “Star Academy”, games like “Koh-Lanta”, “Fort Boyard” or “les 12 coups de midi” but also fiction like “Lost River”.

And three days before legislative elections which promise to be historic – organized urgently following the dissolution of the National Assembly carried out by President Emmanuel Macron – Alexia Laroche-Joubert shared her state of mind on the political climate current. “As I say, it’s the best reality TV show I could have produced.”she mocked while sharing the impression of a country on the verge of implosion. “My first feeling is sadness. My second feeling was: “Was it necessary?” And my third feeling, I will tell you on Monday morning.”

Beyond these opinions, the outcome of the vote has particular importance for the president of Banijay Productions. Indeed, the National Rally affirmed that in the event of their party’s victory on July 7, it would privatize public service broadcasting, namely France Télévisions and Radio France. Decisive information for Alexia Laroche-Joubert given that some of the shows or fiction that she produces are broadcast on these channels. “I will not comment on whether it is a good or bad idea. I think that the characteristic of a public service is its independence, mainly from the government. And that there is no democratic country where there is not a strong public service that must be preserved.”

« I am surprised at the feasibility”

The person concerned continued by expressing her surprise as to the feasibility of such a measure. “There is still a regulatory level that makes this extremely difficult and there is an economic difficulty. Who could buy? And, once you buy, when you are in a private logic it is to make synergies and in any case probably profits. Which is not the function of the public service. […] I’m surprised at the feasibility. »

However, a future in politics is not in Alexia Laroche-Joubert’s plans. “There is a reality, which is that production means managing problems and therefore being mayor means managing problems.” Once this parallel is made, the position of political representative as such does not interest her. “I signed for 8 years, I am very happy. I have the chance to work with extremely competent people at the head of all the labels, we have 17 labels on Banijay France, and that is enormous satisfaction. For me, it’s a form of personal consecration.”
