the Star Wars series “too woke”? The creator reframes viewers

The Star Wars: The Acolyte series, despite its colossal budget, is a failure. Viewers are very scathing about the show. Some go so far as to say that the series is “too woke”, a criticism that the creator does not accept.

The Star Wars: The Acolyte series was particularly anticipated by fans of the license. Unfortunately for them, the quality of the show does not reach that of Ahsoka or even Andor. Viewers harshly criticize the series on social networks and also do not fail to leave a scathing rating for Star Wars: The Acolyte on specialized sites.

Part of the public finds the series too “woke”, particularly because of the representation of the LGBTQIA+ community symbolized by the presence of the Brendok witches. A criticism to which showrunner Leslye Headland has just responded.

Star Wars The Acolyte considered too woke, the creator responds

Star Wars: The Acolyte clearly did not convince the community, who expected to experience intense emotions in front of their screen. If most critics point to the quality of the writing and the scenario which would break the Star Wars canon, others criticize the series its “wokism”, in particular, because the witches of Brendok are queer.

The two women had twin girls together, Mae and Osha. However, Leslye Headland states that she did not “ created queer content, with a capital Q ». For her, the relationship between the two characters is justified by the scenario.

« They live in a matriarchal society. As a gay woman, I knew people would read that their sexuality is homosexual, but there are no men in their community either. It was therefore natural that they would get closer to each other. I would say that it is very simplistic to call them lesbians. I think this means you’re not really paying attention to the story » she explains to The Hollywood Reporter.

The story also suggests that Aniseya used the powers of the Force to have twins with Koril, but Leslye Headland does not comment on the subject. Regardless, it’s hard to imagine that Star Wars: The Acolyte could have a second season after such a failure.

  • Viewers of Star Wars: The Acolyte define the series as “too woke”
  • Leslye Headland, the creator, believes that she did not “create queer content, with a capital Q”
