Phillipe, did you think you would make it this far in the adventure? Get me out of here!?
No way! (laughs) I didn’t know there was a warrior inside me until I found myself Get me out of here!. However, I have faced physical challenges in my life, whether it was the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie or crossing Lac-Saint-Jean on a pedal boat to raise funds for my foundation. But the jungle is unlike anything I’ve experienced so far.

What do you mean?
The heat, the bugs, the lack of sleep, the hunger… let’s face it, the living conditions are quite uncomfortable in Get me out of here!. Just the humidity is horrible! I have never sweated so much in my entire life! And yet, to my great surprise, I loved my time in the jungle. What fascinates me most about this adventure is the extent to which humans adapt to any situation and end up finding their bearings.

What was your favorite aspect of the adventure?
With the sounds of the jungle, the smells, the heat and the fact that we are isolated from the rest of the world, we quickly forget that we are on a film set. I had great discussions with the other campers, on super deep topics. Since we have nothing to do other than chat at camp, we take the time to get to know others, something we don’t necessarily do in real life, because everything moves too quickly.

Tell us about the friendships you developed on set.
At the very beginning of the adventure, I was super happy to find my friend Patricia Paquin. We did radio together and he’s really someone I adore. I wish she would have stayed longer. Otherwise, I got a lot closer to Dave Morissette. What a beautiful human! Our cots were side by side and the first few nights when I woke up, Dave would notice and say, “You’re going to be fine, Phil, go back to sleep!”

The fun we had, you have no idea! They looked like two kids let loose in the most beautiful places in Panama. Dave is like me, he is easily amazed, he has retained his childish heart!

In closing, can you tell us a moment that we didn’t see on television? When Rosalie dropped the coffee and then smashed the solar panels, I guessed immediately that there was something fishy down there. I’ve watched enough reality shows in my life to guess that this was a “sabotage” type challenge. I even said to Rosalie: “The reward is better for being good!”, but that was not kept in the editing. (laughs)

As we saw on television, Philippe was injured during the Against-the-Tide slide event. “When I fell, I tore my meniscus, an injury that hurt enough for production to send me to a hospital in Panama for emergency treatment. I had surgery last October in Quebec and, good news, I spoke to my doctor this morning and my knee is completely healed!”

Get me out of here!Sunday 6:30 p.m., on TVA. Get me out of here! …but not right nowMonday 8 p.m., at Évasion, from May 27.
