A 25-year-old Finnish national was killed by a rockfall this Friday in the middle of the day around 1:30 p.m. while he was crossing the Goûter corridor, the accident occurred at 3,500 meters above sea level. He was climbing Mont-Blanc by this classic route with his father, who is unharmed. It was the latter who warned the PGHM of Chamonix.

On Monday, the Haute-Savoie prefecture had called on mountaineers to postpone their ascent “because of the risk of falling rocks linked to the high temperatures, in particular on the Goûter corridor, given the temperatures which continue to rise (isotherm at 4200/4400)”. “In addition, cracks appear at the pass behind the refuge, at the foot of the Dôme du Goûter then at the shoulder”still indicated the prefecture.

In the middle of the week, despite the heat wave, the conditions still made it possible to continue the ascents of the highest peak in Europe, but in the massif, those of the Cosmiques Ridge and access to the Dent du Géant have been suspended for security reasons. A drop in temperatures is forecast for this weekend.
