Singer Jane Birkin was found dead this Sunday at her Parisian home. Suffering from health problems for a few years, she had had to cancel a whole series of concerts recently.

When you think of Jane Birkin, you can’t help but think of Serge Gainsbourg. She meets the man who will become his wife on the location of the filming of the film Le Slogan at the end of the sixties. The couple will become one of the most iconic of the Seventies.

The first big hit of this union is “69, erotic year” released in 1968.

It was in 1969 that the sulphurous hit “Je t’aime… moi non plus” was released. A title that was originally written for and recorded with Brigitte Bardot.

The title provoked an outcry in Catholic circles of the time and deemed obscene by the Vatican. But the success is with go enthroned in the first places of the charts almost everywhere in the world.

It is in solo that we find Jane Birkin for this hit “Ex-fan des sixties”, released on the album of the same name in January 1978. Song written by Serge Gainsbourg (again!), it evokes the destiny singers and musicians of the sixties.

In 1996, Jane Birkin returned to center stage with an album of covers of songs by Serge Gainsbourg, who had died five years earlier. In this album, entitled “Jane Versions”, Jane Birkin covers the hit “La gadoue”, Gainsbourg had written for Petula Clarke in 1966.

A version that made an impression and which will appear in the top charts in and Belgium.

On the album Rendez-vous, released in 2004, Jane Birkin collaborates with many artists from around the world, in the form of a duo. The most emblematic song of this album is none other than “Je m’appelle Jane”, the first single from the album and sung in duet with singer Mickey 3D.

The song was named in the category of original song at the Victoires de la musique 2005, but it was ultimately Calogero’s title “If only I could miss him” which was acclaimed.
