Major fire at the St-Michel sawmill

A major fire caused significant damage to the St-Michel sawmill.

The fire started late Friday afternoon.

The fire was brought under control during the evening.

The flames destroyed one of the three wood dryers.

The president of the company, Jean-François Champoux, explained on his Facebook page that the fire will force the sawmill to reorganize the work of the two remaining dryers.

“We are not considering any reduction in working hours at our sawmill,” he added.

A complete analysis of the situation will be carried out at the beginning of next week in order to quickly restore full drying capacity with the aim of keeping the planing mill in operation.
