There is the journalist, then the hostage. For almost two years, Olivier Dubois was imprisoned by the support group for Islam and Muslims (Jnim, affiliated with Al-Qaeda) in the Mali desert. To cope with captivity, he operates a form of dissociation. The hostage is Zeitoun, the name he gives to his jailers who cannot pronounce his first name, while“Olivier looks at Zeitoun.”
In this video, the former correspondent for Liberation looks back on these 711 days. He recounts how he was taken prisoner, the daily struggles during his captivity and everything that kept him going. It also traces his return to France and his difficulties in resuming a normal life, “The body is back. For the head, it takes a little longer.”
