The Hautes-Pyrénées gendarmes had to intervene to take care of a patient in crisis at the Le Montaigu hospital center in Astugue. He was found carrying a knife while hospitalized at this establishment.
On Wednesday January 22 at the end of the morning, the gendarmes were called to intervene at the Le Montaigu Hospital Center, located in Astugue, to manage a situation involving a hospitalized patient in crisis. The public establishment, which falls under the category of Hospital Centers (CH), specializes in follow-up care and rehabilitation (SSR), particularly in the fields of pulmonology and addiction.
A delicate intervention
The patient in crisis hid a knife in his clothes, although he did not use it to threaten anyone. The weapon was discovered only after the patient had been subdued by the police. “In fact, the patient had a knife on him but hidden in his clothes. He didn’t threaten anyone with it. He was only seen after he had been brought under control,” explains Bérengère Prud’homme, Public Prosecutor at the Tarbes Judicial Court.
-Psychiatric care
The patient’s behavior was quickly attributed to an obvious seizure. He was examined by a psychiatrist while in police custody, which led to a hospitalization decision tailored to his mental state. Regarding the legal aspect of this case, Bérengère Prud’homme confirmed that the case will be closed without further action: “The case will be classified criminally, the threats not being characterized and his mental state clearly not allowing to prosecute him for carrying a weapon. »
This event highlights the challenges that medical teams in health establishments like the Le Montaigu Hospital Center may face. Although such situations remain exceptional, they underline the importance of safety measures and collaboration between medical teams and law enforcement to guarantee the safety of everyone, while providing the necessary care to patients in distress.
